Arie Vardi

Arie Vardi was born in Chile and graduated in graphic design in Jerusalem. From his studio in the Scottish Borders he creates emotive paintings in response to the landscapes around him, in particular the West Coast of Scotland, and the Negev desert and Patagonia.

Mostly, he uses acrylics and mixed media in his works, creating expressive
explorations into nature, accentuated by using colour in an experimental way, for example incorporating gold leaf as a way to enhance the quality of the work making it brighter and translucent. The light is a key part, playing, depicting light across the image, just moving into the scene or just about to fall into shadow. In the process of creation he lets the materials speak for themselves and the image to reveal itself.
