Clare Russell
Clare was born in Perth and grew up in Pitlochry, attending Pitlochry High School and then Breadalbane Academy in Aberfeldy. She has been a self-taught artist for 17 years, overlapping with a 20 year career in science and engineering. Since 2017 she has been painting full-time from her home studio in Fife, near the shores of the Firth of Forth.
As a keen walker and birder she spends many hours outdoors, observing and sketching birds in their natural habitats around Scotland.
Outside she sketches mainly in charcoal and pastel. Back in the studio she works from her sketches to create acrylic paintings on board or canvas. She layers up blocks of pure colour to produce works that have a bold and distinctive style.
