Clare was born in Perth and grew up in Pitlochry, attending Pitlochry High School and then Breadalbane Academy. She has been a self-taught artist for 12 years, overlapping with a 20 year career in science and engineering. Since 2017 she has been painting full-time from her home studio in Fife, near the shores of the Firth of Forth.
As a keen walker and birder she spends many hours outdoors, observing and sketching the landscape and nature around her in Scotland.
Back in the studio she works in series from her sketches, layering collage, found objects, ink and acrylic paint. The loose, abstracted style retains the feeling of being outside and reflects the strong connection Clare has with the natural landscape.
Clare’s paintings are coated with an isolation layer and matt varnish so they can be displayed unglazed, in their natural state, like the landscapes that inspire them.
