Ken is self-taught, has been painting full time since the early 90s and lives in the Borders. He has been fascinated by the north west of Scotland since he was quite young, loving the wide-open vistas of highland beaches and lochs and the even more spacious mountain summits.

He is intrigued by the contrast between the transient nature of the light by which we perceive the mountains, against that ageless solidity, and it is this static quality that he tries to capture in his work. Ken likes to paint in a realistic style and freely edits the landscape and sometimes merges multiple viewpoints.

Working on material from recent trips abroad has encouraged a subtle shift in his work: slightly more colour and stronger value contrasts.
