Lucy Newton
Lucy was born and raised just outside West Calder and has always been fascinated by the flora and fauna of the countryside and farmland. Her first formal art education was at Manchester Metropolitan University where she did a foundation course in Art and Design. Lucy then went on to specialize in illustration and completed her degree at Edinburgh College of Art.
The majority of Lucy’s work depicts native British wildlife or farm animals. She likes to work with a range of media including watercolour, pencil, pen and ink, monoprint, wax crayon and collage. Lucy enjoys combining and playing with these various media to try and illustrate just a fraction of the beauty of her subjects. Unlike many wildlife artists, Lucy does not attempt to document the birds and animals in exact realism, instead she tries to capture some of the qualities and energy of the amazing natural world around us.
