Shona grew up in Speyside, Scotland, surrounded by the nature and countryside which now inspires her work as a fibre artist. She studied Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh and, following teacher training, taught science in Newcastle before returning to live in Edinburgh. Having always loved drawing and painting, Shona was delighted to discover the art of felt-making in 2013. She has developed her wool ‘painting’ technique over the past few years.
Her artworks are created by building up layers of wool using a needle, in the same way as a painter applies paint using a brush. She uses a wide range of wool fibres including merino wool, silks and even bamboo and alpaca fibres. Her first solo exhibition took place in November 2016 in the Still Life Gallery, Aberlour.
