Lucy Newton was born and raised just outside West Calder and has always been fascinated by the flora and fauna of the countryside and farmland. Her love of nature comes from first-hand observation. Her first formal art education was at Manchester Metropolitan University where she did a foundation course in Art and Design. Lucy then went on to specialize in illustration and completed her degree at Edinburgh College of Art.
Lucy’s exhibition features Scottish wildlife from a variety of habitats: forest, field, garden and coast. She likes to work with a range of media including watercolour, pencil, pen and ink, monoprint, wax crayon and collage. Lucy enjoys combining and playing with these various media to try and illustrate just a fraction of the beauty of her subjects.
